We have added a new section on the website to communicate important and interesting developments related to our home golf club, now known as "The Golf Club at La Quinta". We have posted several new communications from Larry Taylor (GM), which are current and important to know. Not the least of which is the new annual pass program (2010), current rate schedule, the overseeding calendar and a new Azul restaurant menu. We hope you find this new section of the website useful.

COMMUNICATION FROM THE GM

Hi Everyone

Attached is our annual pass program for 2010. I want to thank Jim Del Monte and the golf committee for all their invaluable input in making this year's program the cleanest and simplest one yet. As you will see, we've kept our pricing the same as last year, and even added 4 extra times for you to bring your families and friends to play golf.

We will be accepting applications as early as now until December 15 for the special pricing. Applications received after Dec 15 will be billed at a slightly higher rate. Obviously, we would love to collect your dues as early as possible to help "the old cash flow."

In addition, we are sending you the rate card for the season. We will have them posted on our new upcoming website www.thegolfclubsofcalifornia.com as well as the annual rates.

This year we will issuing membership cards that will not only identify you but allow you to take advantage of a discounted rate at our other 3 sister clubs. We encourage you to take advantage of this perk, especially during over seeding- 10/5 through 10/22. Besides the membership cards, we will be issuing cart stickers to be placed on the driver's side of your personal cart. It is our intent to police the trespassing on the course by non-registered cart owners. Having the registration sticker on your cart will identify you as a member when we are marshaling the course, particularly in the evenings.

As we get closer to the season, I can't tell you how excited the staff and I are to seeing you all come back and enjoy the great golf and fellowship. This is going to be our best season yet!

Here is the latest on our club!

Golf Course Overview

Our course over seeding is proceeding quite nicely, with our projected time table falling into place. This week we are allowing carts in the rough. By next Thursday, we’re planning on allowing carts to use the 90 degree rule, going in and out of the fairway with the least impact possible. After a week or so, the restrictions will be entirely lifted. The course reacted beautifully to our program, and I was very pleased to hear all the wonderful comments by our long time residents on how the course has never looked better. We even had 2 annual pass holders go ahead and pay for 2010 because they were so happy. I really appreciated that as the money will be used to pay off our large over seeding bills! The grass will continue to be cut at a progressively lower rate each week. Here is our schedule (measured in inches):

By next weekend all the mowing heights will be at final settings. You’ll notice that we will be increasing the rough height to 2 inches. This protocol will create not only a better definition between fairway and rough, but will increase the Bermuda’s tolerance to cold – prolonging the green color as much as possible. In addition the extra height will increase the rough’s tolerance to cart wear and tear. Our new over seeding technique on the driving range where we have created mini fairways came out great.

Tee Time Reservations

There has been a little confusion on the tee time reservation process. We are now allowing annual pass holders to call in the extra ½ day to make their reservations, even though technically the new program doesn’t take effect until January. This really has helped in reducing confusion in the mornings. We apologize to anyone who called in at this year’s time frame and didn’t get the exact time they wanted. Also, in an effort to be fair to all pass holders, we cannot allow a member to make more than 2 tee times on any given day.

Cart Registrations

The new cart license stickers will be available in the coming week, but cannot be issued until you have signed up and paid for 2010. We will be asking everyone to place the sticker on the driver’s side of the cart. That will enable our staff to quickly identify legal and illegal carts on the course.

Azul Restaurant

The new menu at the Azul Restaurant has received favorable reviews. This week we will be unveiling our Tequila bar where if a premium Tequila is purchased, the customer will receive a complimentary souvenir shot glass with our Roadrunner logo. A special thanks goes to Merv Brandt, who used his talents to remodel our bar area. The wood work and shelving compliments the new trophy display case he built in the hallway. We will be starting the wildly popular “9 and dine” golf events sometime in late November- probably during the middle of the week. By December, we will be having weekly dinners, currently contemplated to be on Saturday nights.

Lesson Program

We are pleased to announce that we will have an LPGA Professional on board this season! Her name is Becca Carey, LPGA and she is the head teaching professional at Incline Village Golf Club at Lake Tahoe during the summer. She has enjoyed great success in the desert, recently teaching at COD. We are also fortunate to have Bob Veroullis, PGA re-join Jerry Willis, PGA and Joel DiGeorgio to our great lesson team. We will be sending out a complete lesson information packet next week, complete with rates and services.

Celebrity Sighting

Hall of Famer Don Sutton was seen playing our course last Friday. Don is an excellent golfer (7 handicap) and thoroughly enjoyed playing The Golf Club at La Quinta.
